Maine’s First Ship – Virginia was built in 1607-1608 and became the first ocean going ship built in America. This photo, by Russ Bolt, shows the reconstructed ship. Built by volunteers in Bath, Maine– City of Ships. She was launched in 2022 and now docks at the local Freight Shed on the Kennebec River.

The photo below is of a 17 century style pocket bag designed and knit by Viviana. The bag was used by sailors and others in the 17 century for personal items such as coins, combs, or small tools.
